PRELAB QUESTIONS: (to be turned in upon arriving at lab)

Prelab on: Electromagnetic Induction and Motors

1. Read the lab thoroughly.

2. Familiarize yourself with induction and Faraday's law (Chapter 21.1 and 21.2)

3. If you have a magnet and a stationary closed loop of wire, is there any way to produce a current in the wire? If so, how? If not, why not?

4. Imagine you have two wire loops. The first one is connected to an AC power supply and produces a (time varying) magnetic field. The second one reacts according to Faraday's law, and has a voltage induced across the ends of the wire. Describe the difference in the results if the power supply instead supplied a steady (DC) voltage.

Thanks for your time and efforts!
