PHYSICS 2020 Grade Getter
The final exam has been graded, and your semester grades have been computed.
PLEASE READ THIS PAGE FIRST before you fill in the form to get your scores!
The final exam had a fairly high median of 76.5% (Half did better, half did worse). Here is the histogram for the final exam.

If you want to know how you stand on the final exam alone:
Above 90% (i.e. raw score of 31/34 or higher) on the final exam puts you in the top 14% of the class (A's)
Above 76.5% (i.e. 26/34 or higher) on the final puts you in the top half of the class (B's)
Below 52% (i.e. 18/34 or lower) or so on the final puts you in the bottom 12% of the class (D's)
Below 36.5% (i.e 13/34) on the final would be considered failing (F)

Your course grade is determined, as specified in the syllabus, by the following formula:
13% for each of the three midterms
25% for the final exam
15% for the lab
3% for the class participation activities
18% for CAPA+long ans+quiz (which breaks down to 13% for CAPA, 3% for long ans homeworks, and 2% for the quizzes in recitation)
This generates your "total course score" from 0-100.

Specifically, your total score =
.13*(Exam 1 %) + .13*(Exam 2 %) + .13*(Exam 3 %) + .25*(Final exam %)
+ .15*(Lab score*100%/15 pts) + .13*(Capa % after dropping worst)
+ .03*(long answer %) + .02*(quiz %) + .03*(participation*100%/20 pts)
(NOTE: Some of your quiz or long answer scores were scooted UP a little in order that all my TA's ended up with the same average score, to correct for the fact that some TA's grade a little harder than others. I scooted up everyone the same, for a given TA. The TA's actually ended up grading very similarly to each other, so this didn't have signficant impact on anyone.)
Here is a histogram for the total course scores.

Grading: (I assign mostly "solid" grades, with only a few percent +'s and -'s at the boundaries.)
86% and above on the total score puts you in the top 15% of the class (A's and A-'s)
75% and above on the total score puts you above average (B+'s, B's and B-'s)
Below 62% on the total score puts you in the bottom 12% of the class (D's and D-'s)
(Nobody who participated in the class this semester has gotten an F!)

Important: please do not write me because you are "close" to a grade boundary. I wish I could give everyone higher grades, but I cannot! At this point there is nothing I can (or will) do to change a grade based on your wanting/needing/being close to a higher grade. There are no exceptions to this rule. There is no mechanism for extra credit, and no mechanism to "make up" missed points.
The only way your grade can change is if you find a numerical ERROR in our computation of your grade, i.e. if gradegetter reports a score and you have proof that we mis-entered your grade. As an example, if you believe that you didn't get credit for all the "participation" activities online: bear in mind that all those entries were logged and stored. If you didn't get credit, it means we never received it. At this point, only dated hard-copy printouts would serve as proof that you did, indeed, turn those in. Similarly, if you claim e.g. we didn't add the points correctly on a long answer exam question, you'll need to show me that exam.
That said, your grades are now available via the Grade Getter page.
(You may enter ANY of your valid CAPA pin numbers from the whole semester!)
It's been a pleasure, hope you had had fun AND learned some physics.
