Final exams have been graded, and your score, as well as your final
course grade, are now in the usual spot on our website. A quick
comment about the final - please read this first!
The average on the final exam was 56%. That's the lowest average on any
exam I've ever given! But, don't panic - I really don't believe that it's a
reflection of poor performance on the classes part, at all. On the
contrary, I think your class is as good as any upper
division group I've ever had! The final was, simply, a particularly hard test!
I ended up discarding two parts -
the last lettered part of problems 4 and 5 only saw one ATTEMPT, total,
so I simply threw them out. Makes no difference to the distribution,
just makes the score a *little* more representative. (The one person who
tried it did fine, and got credit, but for everyone else I just tossed
them)
So, try to "renormalize" your score with the class average in mind. The
distribution of individuals on the final was very consistent with the
distribution of total course grades, so the final didn't have much of
any grade impact (either way) for more than a couple of people.
Solutions will be posted by my office, and if you want to get your final
back, just ask. (Might be easiest to stop by next semester, I'll
be down at the NPL most of the summer)
