IMPORTANT: There is an extra credit survey, please take the time to do it (before the final, i.e. today!)

It will be worth (fairly significant!) extra credit. But please do it even if you don't need the credit, I think you'll find it worth your time.

• In preparing for the final, you might be interested in the Giancoli website. If you select a chapter and look for "Practice questions" or "MCAT study questions" on the tab to the left, you can get some good practice with exam-like questions.

• NEW: TA Rosemary Wulf has one final office hour: Sunday May 4th, from 1:30-4:00 in DUANE G1B30.
  Thank her for sharing her Sunday by coming :-) It's not a "review session", she'll just be there to answer questions, like in the help room.
  
  
• CAPA 14 is due the usual time. We are done with written homework! The last week recitation is required attendance (as always), it will be an exam review-style recitation. (Also, if you still have any labs from Lab 4 through Lab 8 that you missed, those will be set up. Note that making up labs only regains partial credit, so it really only makes sense for people who missed MORE than one of those labs, because you cannot miss more than one lab in this course!)
  
  

Week 15: Apr 21- Apr 25

• Rosemary W. and Steve P. will hold their usual Tuesday evening (5 PM, G125) informal study session. Come if you have any questions/concerns about the recent material, (rotational motion stuff will be the order of the day.) This week will likely be quiet again, if you come you may get some individual attention!
  
• CAPA is due the usual time. There will be a lab this week with a prelab (!!) , and a written homework due Friday (Apr 25). Both are posted in the usual spots.

Week 14: Apr 14- Apr 18

• In preparing for the final, you might be interested in the Giancoli website. If you select a chapter and look for "Practice questions" or "MCAT study questions" on the tab to the left, you can get some good practice with exam-like questions.
  
  
• Exam 1-3 solutions are posted on D2L. (If you took version B, it's just the answers - but version A has explanations)
  Your individual exams are graded and grades are posted on D2L. Contact Prof. Pollock if you have questions.

• Rosemary W. and Steve P. will hold their usual Tuesday evening (5 PM, G125) informal study session. Come if you have any questions/concerns about the recent material, (rotational motion stuff will be the order of the day.) I find Tuesday after a midterm is traditionally lower attendance than Tuesday BEFORE a midterm, so you will likely get some individual attention - please come with questions!

Week 13: Apr 7- Apr 11


• Solutions to the practice exams (the one on D2L, and the one from recitation this week) are posted on D2L (see "exams" in the content browser)
  
  
• CAPA is due the usual time (Tues) this week.
  
  
• This is a recitation week. (You can ALSO make up any previous lab (if you missed one!) this week. Please talk to/email your TA if you need to do that!)
  
  
• There will be a very informal study session Tues (Apr 8), 5 PM, G125. SJP and Rosemary will be there. Nothing is planned, we just answer your questions.
  
  
• Midterm is Thursday, Apr 10. See the "Exam info" link under "Course info"
  
  

Week 12: Mar 31 - Apr 5



• The printouts of CAPA #10 say it is due TUES EVENING APR 1. (Soon!) But, due to the break (and, Prof. Uzdensky announcing it in class :-) we have extended the due date by 48 hours. So, you can turn CAPA #10 in (online, as usual) up to Thursday night, with the usual automatic CAPA extension now running till Friday at 8 AM, Apr. 4.
  Please note that written HW #8 is still due Friday at 4 PM, and the NEXT CAPA (#11) will be due the usual time, Tuesday Apr 8 in the evening.
  
  
• Lab 6, and prelab 6, written HW #8 are all posted in their usual spots
  (Please note that prelab - there is one due when you arrive at lab this week)
  
• There will be a study session Tues (Apr 1), 5 PM. SJP and Rosemary will be there.

Spring break . (Mar 24-28)


• Materials for after spring break are now posted in usual spots -( the next written HW, lab 6, and prelab 6)
  
• Please note that prelab - there is one due the first lab after the break!
  
• SJP will announce after the break if there will be a study session Tues (Apr 1). Probably!

Week 10. (Mar 17-21)


• Note that there is a (short) prelab due when you come in to Lab this week.
  
• Don't forget there is a written HW due Friday. It's shorter than usual, and on older material - if you think you won't be able to get it into the box on Friday afternoon due to the upcoming break, get it done early!
  
• There will NOT be a study session this Tuesday (Mar 18). We will start these up again after spring break.
  
• SJP is also not able to make his usual Monday or Fri office hour (Mar 17). Really sorry! I had a very nasty stomach flu, I'm doing well now but it knocked me for a loop.
• Have a great spring break!
• Your updated grades (including Exam 2, but also an estimated course score based on all data I have so far) are available on D2L. Click on the "grades" tab. Solutions to Midterm #2 were posted to D2L right after the exam.
  
  
  

Week 9. (Mar 10-14)

• There will NOT be a study session next Tuesday (Mar 18). We will start these up again after spring break.
  
• SJP is out of town Thurs/Fri (so my usual Friday office hour in the help room is cancelled, sorry!)

Week 8. (Mar 3 -7)

• SJP and Rosemary Wulf are holding their study session Tuesday (Feb 25) at 5 PM in G125. As usual, nothing special planned, we just answer (and pose) questions.
  

Week 7. (Feb 24-28)

• FYI SJP will be out of town Thursday/Friday, so won't be there for usual Friday office hour (before lecture). Sorry about that! I'll be back Monday for my regular Monday hour (after lecture), and also Tues evening study session
• NEW! SJP (and TA Rosemary Wulf) are holding study sessions Tuesday at 5 PM in G125 (one floor higher than our lecture hall) This is not a “last minute CAPA help” session! I will not answer any questions that are directly about CAPA due that evening - that belongs in the help room. Instead, I will be there to answer questions about the course material, review ideas, work alternative problems, that sort of thing. A study session! It makes a lot of sense exam weeks. We’ll see if it also “works” other weeks! Based on attendance/popularity we will decide if we keep this up, or not. But there WILL be one this coming Tuesday (Feb 25) (and the following week too, which is exam week)

Week 6. (Feb 17-21)

• NEW! SJP (and TA Rosemary) held a special study session before Midterm #1, it was well attended. We are going to try this again, and will begin THIS WEEK (Tuesday, Feb 18) at 5 PM in G125 (one floor higher than our lecture hall) This is not a “last minute CAPA help” session! I will not answer any questions that are directly about CAPA due that evening - that belongs in the help room. Week 5. (Feb 10-14)

• Exam solutions are posted on D2L. Here is more information about the class averages, distributions, grades, etc. (See the Resources -> Advice tab if you feel unhappy about your exam outcome.)
  
  
• Note: next week's lab has a "PRELAB" to do - you should complete it and bring it with you (don't wait till you get there to do it, lest you risk losing 1/3 points on the lab!)
  
  
• OPPORTUNITY, but act fast (email today if you are interested)! The PhET Interactive Simulations project is looking for student volunteers to try out science simulations and activities. The interviews with the simulations last about an hour, are conducted in the Duane Physics building, and you will be compensated $20 for your time. If you're interested, please contact Kathy Dessau at Kathryn.Dessau@colorado.edu with your name, email address and class (Physics 2010). There are times available starting next week.




Week 4. (Feb 3-7)

• Exam 1 information is up on the exams link (always available under "Course info"). Some highlights:

  • If your TA is Rosemary Wulf, or Andrew Hess, you will go to G1B30 (our regular classroom)
    

    If your TA is Jake Fish or Clarissa Briner, you'll go to G1B20 (next door, the OTHER big lecture hall)

  • 2 PRACTICE EXAMS are now posted on our D2L page. On the "Course Home" page, look for the "content browser" window and go to "exams". You certainly do NOT have to do these, they are just there if you want some extra practice. (They are from two different instructors, with rather different styles.)
  • There will be an evening review session 5-6:30 PM in G125 on Tues Feb 4. It will be very informal, nothing planned, just a time/space to ask questions. (Most likely we will go over the practice test questions, that's what usually ends up happening!) TA Rosemary Wulf will likely run this, and Prof. Pollock will be there at least for part of it.

Week 3.

Week 2. (Monday is a holiday)



• There is lab or recitation every week. From now on, please print and bring the upcoming week's activity with you. (See the Labs and Recitations tab).
• CAPA #1 is always due on Tues at 11 PM.
• Written HW is due on Friday at 4 PM in the box as you enter the help room. This is separate from CAPA! See the homework link for more details.
  
• Have you noticed that lecture notes, daily powerpoints, and clicker question results (with answers!) are all available in the Lecture info tab?
• Grade info, solutions, and a discussion forum (to ask and answer questions about homework) are all available through our 2010 page on D2L
  
  
• If you registered for Phys 2010 late (after Sunday), be sure to find the "CAPA late enrollment" link under the Homework/CAPA tab, and register. Late CAPA registration means you won't get this week's CAPA in the bin, so you'll have to use pin-getter for week 1.
