2140 - Notes, Syllabus Section VI, lecture 41 (12/6/95)

(Here is the previous lecture )
Intro to Partial Differential Equations. Discussion of most common equations. Discussion of Separation of Variables technique

Specific example: Laplace's equation in a semi-infinite rectangular box, with 0 boundary conditions on the sides and given b'dry condition at the bottom

Derived the separated equations, used boundary values to find eigenvalues of the introduced constant

Discussion/derivation of the fourier sine series needed to complete the solution

Next example will be finite square, 0 on three sides.
