Physics 3310, Electromagnetism
Instructors: Steven Pollock, Stephanie Chasteen, and Darren Tarshis
On the left, an image which I think David was referring to in class. See here for more details (and a short video clip). No one was hurt, Gauss' law (and the "Faraday cage effect") in action! Still, I'm thinking the pilots and control tower must have been a little disconcerted. (Thanks to Erin for sending this)
On the right,
in honor of the subject of Chapter 3, the Laplace Equation, we have a portrait of Pierre Simon
Laplace. You can get pictures of many mathematicians and scientists at the Dibner Portrait site.
Week 6 (Feb 18-Feb 22):
We are working through Ch.3, in which we are learning methods to solve Laplace's equation (Del^2 V=0).
Special notes:
- First midterm is Tuesday evening, Feb 19, 7:15 PM (G125, not our usual classroom. That's the one across from the library).See the "exams" link for more info.
- Check out these links for simulations to show vector fields in 2D and 3D and another (emstatic) in 2D.
- OFFICE HOURS:
Mon 4 PM, in the Tutorial bay in the basement (with Stephanie Chasteen)
Normally - Tues (3:30-5 PM, 11th floor) will be my regular office hours/hw session.
However, exam week, I will not hold a regular Tuesday session. (I'll be in my office if you need me, though)
