Physics 3310, Electromagnetism
Instructor: Steven Pollock
In a sense, the heros of the semester (even though we haven't directly studied their contributions much, yet!), Michael Faraday (left) and James Clerk Maxwell (right). (Notice these are photos rather than paintings. It's almost like they were real people!) Their work was primarily in the early/mid 1800's, paving the way to radio, microwaves, lasers, etc.
Week 15 (Apr 29 - May 3):
Wrapping up the term! We will finish our discussion of magnetism (including just a bit about ferromagnetics), and touch on Chapter 7 this week, trying to get a sense of what the time-dependent terms (Faraday's and Maxwell's contributions) tell us about electromagnetics. We'll also do some practice/review for the final!
Special notes:
- Here is the Question #1 survey (We'll leave this open till Friday May 3, so if you turned in HW15 and still want to finish this, please do so!)
Here is the Question #2 survey (We'll leave this open till Friday May 3, so if you turned in HW15 and still want to finish this, please do so!)
- The cool magnetic field "sim" I showed in class Monday is here (from MIT's freshman E&M course!)
Next (last!) homework is HW 15 (Due Wed, May 1)
- Please visit our piazza site. I give extra credit for participation there. (The more who do that, the more useful it becomes to the rest of us.)
We also have a D2L (learn.colorado.edu) site - I post solutions there
- Video lectures:here.
