Week 6 (Sep 29-Oct 3): We return to Griffiths Ch 7.3 to learn about Maxwell's contribution to the set of equations that bear his name - displacement currents.

Maxwell

The physical laws which govern electrodynamics were unified (and corrected) by James Clerk Maxwell, (more history here or here) the hero of our course. We continue to discuss Maxwell's contributions to "Maxwell's equations" this week (and, the consequences of that for the rest of the term)!

Announcements:

  • First midterm is coming up soon - next Thursday evening (7:30-9:30 PM, in HUMN 150) See the exam link (always available in the course info tab) for more. There are generic and also detailed content-specific study suggestions there.
  • Physics is running a survey on undergrad research experiences - we really want everyone (whether or not you've done any research!) to participate. You probably got an email from Kirsten Apodaca, but if not, here's the link.
  • Remember, due every Monday by 10 AM! Preflight #5 ( Password is always 3320)
  • Homework #5 is due Wed, Oct 1 (at start of class)
  • Reading: See "Lecture notes" tab. (This week is not in Griffiths, see my lecture notes on RLC circuits)
  • Visit our piazza page and ask a question. Or answer someone else's for a little extra credit!
(We also have a D2L page where I post solutions, and occasionally update individual grade information)

  • Beyond Boulder meets Mondays@ 5 PM. (CU' meets Tuesdays@5 PM every other week)
