Week 8 (Oct 13-Oct 17): We are moving to Griffiths Ch 9 now, electromagnetic waves!

em waves
This week we start the study of EM waves. The use of these to transmit information has had a profound effect on almost every aspect of life, everyday as well as global!
See this site (it's old Java - I had to go into my java security preferences (on a mac) and explicitly allow it to run!) for a really nice simulation of waves on a string bouncing off a boundary. I found it instructive to stare at! Be patient - the wave does not "move" quickly, but that gives you more time to think about what is going on :-) Try both "fixed" and "free" ends, think about what you are seeing! In a similar way, the "wave on a string" phet sim is simple but quite instructive too.
