Week 11 (Nov 3-Nov 7) We are wrapping up Ch 9 - reflection, refraction, and transmission from conductors (covering onlyvery briefly the story of dielectrics, and skipping entirely the topic of "waveguides") and will move on at the end of the week to Ch 10, where we reintroduce the use of potentials to describe electromagnetism.

 

The figure shows the magnetic vector potential around a solenoid - there is (mostly) no B-field outside the solenoid, but there is an A-field! (I found a t-shirt with another image...)


Announcements:
If you are registered to vote, remember that Nov 4 is the deadline. It's mail-in, and they have to BE THERE by the 4th. You can drop it off at a Polling center. If you, the most scientifically literate and intelligent members of the populace do NOT vote, think about who will be making decisions that impact you... And, it feels good to vote :-)
